Last week I was in Chicago for my son’s college orientation and I must say that during the summer, it is just a fabulous city! Cold weather is really not my thing and since I have never experienced Chicago in the winter, I can only write about what I know: summer time.
As a student of feng shui, I always want to “feel” the energy of a space and to see why it has that affect on our feelings. The photo above is the gateway to Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. As you can see it is six lanes wide and also has extremely wide sidewalks that line the street. The area is filled with a range of shops as well as restaurants and hotels for every budget. But, what was interesting to me was that it was just enjoyable to walk up and down the street to take in the moment. Families, couples, weddings, friends and entertainment filled the air. So, I tried to analyze the feng shui.
From the larger area map, notice that Chicago is on the southern tip of Lake Michigan, with Wisconsin to the west and Michigan to the east, so from a 4 features perspective they “protect” the city. The street map shows how Michigan Avenue is surrounded by water by the Chicago River, harbor and bridges. Water in feng shui is a symbol of expansion, meaning it connects you with possibilities, future and money. For any retail business that is really ideal. Also, roads are a form of water and bridges are a symbol of connection, so the more bridges, the more prosperity. The Magnificent Mile is very wide with again, extremely spacious sidewalks that invite pedestrians. It is inviting and welcoming qi to the space. One can feel this through the constant activity that runs through the streets. My conclusion is that they have wonderful feng shui!

Thanks for stopping by and how nice to have someone in Bellevue! Yes, since this is the subject I am passionate about I would love to meet and see what we can do together! My master says downtown Bellevue has very good feng shui and with the two bridges, it gathers much more qi than in the past. I will need a good map to assess the grid but that’ll be a fun challenge!
