Where did summer go?  In this part of the world, it felt like we hardly had a summer. There were many gray days, lots of cloudy skies and the good ‘ol rain.  It was so disappointing for me, because summer is my favorite time of year.  I like it hot.  Yet, I know from friends and family in Asia and the East Coast, it wasn’t like that for them.  They had lots of sun, humidity and heat.

But, with the cooler weather comes wonderful fall colors.   Today in my neighborhood, the leaves are already turning brown and there were already covering the driveways.  I love the colors of nature during this time of year; the muted greens, reds, oranges, yellows, purples and browns.  These are colors that also wonderful not only in nature but also inside the home.

How do we make a home feel naturally comfortable?  Just observe nature.  By following nature’s colors you can bring warmth into your home.  Background neutrals are the browns, yellows and greens.  Just think of bark, browning leaves, tall grasses, evergreens, and branches as your inspiration.  Then the accents are the little berries, red leaves, dahlias and chrysanthemums.  Use these accent colors for pillows, art, vases, accessories, table accents, bowls, ornaments and just plain fruit in a bowl.  It will cheer the space up and get you in the mood for fall.

  1. Hi Jenny,
I love the photo you chose. I like Fall – it’s cool and comfortable. The only season I don’t like is Winter. I hate having to be locked up inside the house when it’s cold outside.

  2. Me too! One question for you Angela. Does temperature affect intuition? When I am cold I feel tense, does that affect our senses? What are your thoughts?
