Organize Plastic Shopping Bags

Here in Seattle there is a controversial issue regarding plastic shopping bags. The local environmentalists want to ban these bags from supermarkets, retail and convenience stores and charge 5 cents for paper shopping bags.  You can read more about this issue in the Seattle Times article by clicking here.

I understand that “plastic” just doesn’t sound environmentally friendly and yes, I do believe that it’s best if we all brought our own reusable bags. But, sometimes we just aren’t that prepared or organized and those bags are much appreciated.  Then there are those who say, plastic bags are actually reusable, convenient and cheaper than paper bags, noting it takes more energy to produce and distribute the latter.   Personally, I really make good use of those plastic bags, because they don’t take up much space and are so light.  I actually save my plastic bags and reuse them often, especially for things that have an odor that I don’t want spreading.   Here are a few ways I use them:

• trash bin liner
• carrying or packing shoes
• boys wet athletic laundry
• trash in the car
• emergency barf bag (when kids were little they got car sick)
  
• general convenience, especially when traveling
  
• lunch bag
• pet scooper
• dirty diaper
• seafood shells – clams, prawns etc.

I could go on.  Those plastic shopping bags just make life a little more convenient. This post is to share this video I made on How to Store Plastic Shopping Bags. It helps you organize these bags by folding them into a nice neat little triangle that takes so little space, that you can carry them with you in your bag or pocket or just keep a few in your car for an emergency.   I can’t remember the first time I saw someone fold a bag in this way, but I thought it was very practical!  My mother-in-law thinks it’s brilliant and now does this as well.  My kids think I’m odd and couldn’t care less, but to those who like to be organized, hope you find it fun!
