Western and Eastern Feng Shui Schools

People often ask, Is there a difference in feng shui practices between the East and West? In fact, the true feng shui concepts stress a balance between mankind and his living environment throughout the world.

The main focus for feng shui design is the qi energy and its flow of the space. Just as there is no Eastern Acupuncture or Western Acupuncture, there is no Western feng shui or Eastern feng shui.

Western feng shui designers jumped on the band wagon of the feng shui fever, using the popularity of the feng shui approach to incorporate some of the basic ideas and terminology of Yin-Yang, Five Elements and bagua, and stretched its explanation and applied them for use in interior design in the Western world.

In interior design, the different motifs, design elements, color schemes, and style of furniture will be different among the East and West but this is a cultural and personal preference, not a feng shui issue.
